My Micro-Teaching Experience: A Step Toward Becoming a Better Teacher

Our college conducted the micro-teaching session on 3rd October 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and it turned out to be one of the most insightful experiences in my teacher training journey. Each student was assigned a specific teaching skill to present. We were given 15 minutes in total—3 minutes to introduce the skill, 5–7 minutes to handle the actual class, and the remaining time for feedback and evaluation. For the English Department, micro-teaching was divided over two days. Sixteen students presented on 3rd December, while the remaining eleven had their session on 4th December. My slot was on 3rd December, from 11:15 to 11:30a.m. My classmates kindly acted as my students, adding a touch of realism to the experience.

I presented the Skill of Stimulus Variation, and the chapter I handled was “The Shield of Courage.” To create an engaging introduction, I followed my lesson plan closely and began by showing an image of Neerja Bhanot and the poster of the movie Neerja. This helped set the context and immediately caught the attention of my “students. After the introduction, I explained the passage, ensuring I applied the components of the skill wherever possible. Then i asked few questions to check their understanding to further exhibit my other essential components. Thankfully, my classmates cooperated well, which made it easier for me to demonstrate the skill effectively.

After my presentation, my teacher provided her feedback. She mentioned that I appeared a bit angry, but also added that the students were slightly naughty and my reaction was quite natural. She was  satisfied with my session. She appreciated my speech, intonation, and feedback strategies, and advised me to focus more on body movement during the class.

Some of my classmates were asked to re-teach because they either didn’t complete the full 5 minutes or couldn’t exhibit the skill properly.

All in all, the micro-teaching session gave me a thorough insight into my strengths and the areas I need to polish. It shaped my understanding of classroom management, skill execution, and self-confidence—preparing me well for the upcoming macro-teaching sessions.
