Social Visit - BVET

As part of our B.Ed curriculum, social visits play a vital role in shaping the personality and social understanding of future teachers. We the first years as part of social visit went to BVET centre, Chathanoor on 07 Oct, Tuesday.

We were warmly welcomed by the faculty and students. The program started with the prayer song followed by an orientation from the Director, Mr.Johns Lukose who explained us about the centre, its origin and about its functioning, and the programs they offer to the students. Then we were divided into 4 groups (25 each) to understand the different elements and the functioning of the institution, where we came to understand about the admission prpcedure, their academics including the vocational education that will help them to gain a living in future. We also came to understand the dedication and the effort of the faculties to guide these specially abled children and. We also got an experience from a mother, who came to take admission for her son. She explained about the pain and discrimination they face from their family and society and the struggle they face to raise these children. The Director also introduced us to the faculty and the students in the final session.

We came across different products, like jewellery, dish washer, painting etc, they made and it was followed with the cultural program where the students of BVET showcased their talent in dancing and singing, followed by our cultural programs. It concluded with an experience sharing session followed by a fun group dance.

Personally, I found the social visit to be a heart-touching and thought-provoking experience. It reminded me that teaching is not just about academics but also about understanding human emotions and contributing to society. The visit strengthened my belief that education should create socially conscious individuals who care for others and strive for a better community.
